Hair Transplantation

Hair Transplantation Procedure

Hair Transplantation is the only permanent medical solution for the treatment of Androgenetic Alopecia.
As opposed to former techniques, up-to-date hair transplantation can accomplish completely natural aesthetic results.
All that are considered successful since they are absolutely undetectable.
They are provided and performed by specialized, experienced medical teams who have all the necessary skills.

Basic Principle

In order to fully understand the process of hair transplantation, it is important to describe the natural way of hair growth:

Hair grows in naturally occurring groups of 1-4 hairs that are called  Follicular Units.
Those consisting of one hair are allocated along the frontal hairline. As we move towards the back of the scalp, hair follicles constitute groups of 2, 3 or 4 hairs.

Follicular units are complete biological units. They comprise nerves, blood vessels, sebaceous glands, collagen and the small muscle arrector pili.
Each follicular unit has a predetermined genetic definition.

In cases of hair loss, hair follicles on the front and top of the scalp are susceptible to the presence of the hormone Dihydrotestosterone (DHT), derivative of testosterone.

The Affection of the Androgens

Testosterone, with the help of the enzyme 5-a reductase is converted into DHT. The latter, due to its presence on hair follicles, is responsible for hair miniaturization (gradual shrinking of hair follicles that leads to gradual shrinking of hair).
Hair loss is the final stage of hair miniaturization. But hair follicles on the back and sides of the scalp – in what we call the stable hair growth Donor Area – preserve their genetic resistance to Androgens and thus to hair loss.

Hair Transplantation is the receiving of follicular units from the donor area and their reimplantation to the area of hair loss.

New Hair Growth

The reimplanted hair follicles maintain their genetic resistance to hair loss. They continue to grow normally throughout a life time.
As Follicular Unit Hair Transplantation reproduces the exact way hair grows in nature, it can provide completely natural results.

New hair will start growing progressively and the first signs of growth will appear in 3 months.
Complete results can be accomplished in approximately 12 months. New hair accepts any kind of coiffure technique and does not need any special care.
Besides, it will have no difference from the pre-existing hair.

The Medical Team

Each Bergmann Kord medical team is comprised of a head doctor,  anaesthesiologist and a 4-membered specialized medical staff.
Hair transplantation at Bergman Kord is a painless, safe medical practice of mild gravity. It demands special skills and a highly developed aesthetic perception by the doctor.
Hair transplantation should be an optimized combination of science and aesthetic flair.
Α successful hair transplantation should be absolutely undetectable. On the other hand, it has completely detectable, beneficial impact on all aspects of the patients΄s lives.

Length of the Procedure

The procedure lasts a few hours. Time goes by pleasantly and calmly, as you can have a conversation with the medical team, watch TV or simply relax.
After the end of the procedure you return home. Hair transplantation at BERGMANN KORD is performed in fully equipped operating rooms for surgery, through local anaesthesia.

Return to Usual Activities

In a few days you can take up again your usual activities. In many cases you are able to return to work even on the day following the procedure.

Surgery Rooms

All hair transplantations at Bergmann Kord are performed in state-of-the-art, privately-owned operating rooms equipped with the latest technology, where the strictest protocols of hygiene and safety are fully abided by.

Hair Transplantation Techniques

Given the fact that there is not just one and only solution proper for everyone, Bergmann Kord’s doctors are fully experienced in the most advanced hair transplant techniques and implement that or those that are suitable for each candidate.

Hair transplantation should be as unique for each patient as his fingerprint.

The main difference between the  FUT and the  FUE Technique lies in the receiving of follicular units.

FUT (Follicular Unit Transplantation): follicular units are received through microscopic dissection of a single strip of hair removed from the donor area.

FUE (Follicular Unit Extraction): follicular units are extracted one by one from the donor area.

In order to provide a completely individualized hair transplantation to the patient, our doctors draw up and then implement a Personalized Hair Transplantation Plan that is unique for each patient and that therefore leads to a personalized aesthetic result.

Post Operative Care

At Bergmann Kord we create a personal medical record for each patient in order to closely monitor each case. Individualized care is also provided after the hair transplant procedure at Bergmann Kord.
After the procedure, you will be given orally and in written all the necessary post operative instructions, and we are also providing you with round-the-clock medical care.

The day after the procedure you will come to our clinic for your first hair wash and examination by the doctor.
Then you will be given the schedule of follow–up appointments with the doctor (the appointments are set at the end of the 2nd week and in 3 and 12 months after the procedure) for the checking and recording of the post operative course.
Bergmann Kord continues to stand by all patients for any hair-related advice or information.

Basic Parameters

Hair transplantation does not create new hair and cannot stop hair loss; it redistributes the existing hair from areas of the scalp with adequate density to the areas affected by hair loss.
That means that it cannot provide a full head of hair and basic prerequisite for someone who wishes to have a hair transplant procedure is to have adequate donor hair supply.

The final result varies from person to person, as different parameters have to be considered in each case: the facial characteristics, number of transplanted follicular units, shaft diameter (fine hair provide less density), hair color and texture, skin color, etc. Thus, in the case of 2 different sessions involving the same number of follicular units in different persons, the result will be different for each.

Bergmann Kord doctors establish a Personalized Hair Transplantation Plan for each patient in order to provide an individualized hair transplantation that is completely aligned with the patient΄ s personal desires, characteristics, age and style.

Bergmann Kord hair transplant procedures aim at the improvement of one΄s aesthetic appearance without any changes to the basic structures of his physiognomy.
After having a hair transplant procedure, one should have the best possible aesthetic appearance that is absolutely matched to his profile.

High Standards

Hair transplantation is a predefined process that is performed through certain steps – but is always different according to the patient’s needs- and Bergmann Kord doctors observe the highest standards at every single stage of the process:

  • Follicular units are carefully extracted and kept intact, either through microscopic dissection of the tissue in FUT or one by one in FUE.
  • Follicular units are classified according to the number of hairs they consist of.
  • Follicular units are protected until the time they will be reimplanted.
  • The appropriate recipient sites are created.
  • Follicular units are transplanted to the recipient sites.

During follicular units placement, Bergmann Kord medical teams take into consideration all the necessary parameters that will define a natural result:

  • Proper direction of follicular units so that they become fully harmonized with the growth conditions of the Recipient Area.
  • Appropriate distribution of follicular units to the thinning area, in order to ensure maximum density.
  • Effective combination of all factors that allow a refined and natural frontal hairline.
Hairline is seen at first sight and must be a mild frame for the face and  the most natural link between forehead and hair.
Many skills are therefore required by the doctor, not only for the initial design of the hairline but for its creation as well.
